Artist Bio

Rey grew up in a suburb right outside of downtown Havana
called Havana Del Este. He arrived in the U.S. in 2004, when he married his wife, Debbie, who he met while she was in Cuba on a Salsa Dance Trip in 2003.

In Cuba, Rey was a Chef, but started working in a construction company when he arrived in the U.S. He enjoyed working with wood and onn his lunch breaks he would carve the scraps of wood they had thrown away. One day he came home with a small mask that he had made that day at work…and a new business was born.

For the next year or so, he carved masks and sculptures for friends and family. In 2007, Afrocuba Creations was started.
